Book Review of 5 Minute Marketing For Authors : Get More Sales For Your Books in Just 5 Minutes a Day
By Barb Asselin. Published February 2015
As of this writing, 5- Minute Marketing for Authors is currently free for the Kindle version. At 46 pages, it’s a quick read and is meant to be a reference book authors can use to pick and choose the strategies they want to implement.
Author of 26 books, Ms. Asselin didn’t want to spend all of her time promoting and marketing those books so she divided her strategies into 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60-minutes tasks. The book covers the 5-minute strategies from her personal list.
The book outlines the various marketing channels she uses and gives examples of activities to implement in each channel. It includes a sample 90-day, 5-minute marketing plan you can use to kick start your book marketing activities. Ms. Asselin offers a free download of the 90-Day plan you can personalize.
A sample of the marketing channels covered:
- KDP Select
- Social Media Platforms
- Forums related to your niche
- Your Email List
- Book Marketing web sites
A sampling of promotion ideas:
- Enroll your book in Amazon KDP Select and run multiple 1-Day free promotions
- Run a Kindle Ad campaign and target Amazon Categories
- Comment and post on Social media and in niche-specific forums
- Create an ‘opt-in’ offer to capture email addresses on your web site.
- Post your book on book marketing websites such as bookbub.com
Five Minute Strategies I like from the 90-Day Marketing Plan:
- Set-up free promo days on Amazon
- Create a Pinterest board in your book’s niche and add a pin for your book
- Add your book to your Linkedin Profile
- In your Amazon Author Central account edit the book’s listing to include one sentence snippets of reviews
- Join a niche-specific group on Linkedin
- If you’re blogging, add a link to your latest blog post on Facebook or Twitter
If you’re not sure where to start with book marketing and if you’re not sure how you will be able to fit those activities into an already busy schedule, you’ll find plenty of ideas you can easily manage.
